Let’s go exploring!

Brisbane’s third botanic gardens, Sherwood Arboretum, is offering a special treat this month for visitors keen to explore this magnificent treasure of trees.

The Volunteer Guides of Brisbane Botanic Gardens will be showcasing the Arboretum’s wonderful collection of more than 1100 specimen trees during a free walk of about one hour starting at 9.30 am on Sunday 23 February.

With the Arboretum looking its very best after welcome summer rain, this is certainly an excellent time to discover the stories behind some of Australia’s impressive native trees.

Please call the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha on 3403 2535 from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm Monday to Friday as bookings are essential for this relaxing walk which starts at the Jolimont Street car park.

After the walk, you are most welcome to join the Friends of Sherwood Arboretum Association (FOSA) in the inviting shade of the Queensland Kauri avenue for morning tea (a $5.00 donation for adults supports their voluntary work).

When booking, please advise if you would like to stay for morning tea and perhaps learn a little more about the history of this 94-year-old botanic treasure.

If you can’t make this month’s walk, please remember you can book ahead with the Brisbane Botanic Gardens for these popular guided walks to be held monthly at Sherwood Arboretum.

Brisbane Botanic Gardens and FOSA will be working in partnership this year developing an app to give visitors easy access to self-guided history, tree, bird and environmental walks in the heritage-listed Arboretum.

With funding support from Brisbane City Council’s History Grants, FOSA will use the expertise of a skilled digital developer to create the app which will be available as a free download to your smart phone.

The app is another step towards progressing a community goal to help create a world-class visitor experience for this botanic garden by the centenary of Sherwood Arboretum on 21 March 2025.
