Davidson’s Plum

Davidsonia pruriens

This tall tropical rainforest tree, growing in north Queensland, is best known for its sour but edible burgundy-coloured fruit. Resembling the European Plum, this fleshy fruit is used for jam and sauces.

In the rainforest, this slender tree has a restricted canopy, but may be more spreading when grown in the open. The leaves are large, up to 80 cm long, and the leaflets are covered in hairs, irritating to touch. The smooth Davidson’s Plum Davidsonia johnsonii, growing in a small rainforest area of the Queensland – New South Wales border region, is considered an endangered species in the wild.

How high can I grow? Up to 12m.
