Crows Ash

Flindersia australis

This tall tree grows in dry rainforests and the rainforest margins of northern New South Wales to central Queensland. The trunk is usually straight, with mottled grey bark, shed in small flakes, and the tree has a rounded crown.

Leaves are up to 30 cm long with 3 to 13 small leaflets, glossy green above and paler beneath. Clusters of cream-white flowers appear in spring and summer. The woody fruit is star-shaped on opening and covered on the outside with short spines. The timber is yellow-brown, strong and durable and prized for flooring and cabinet work.

How high can I grow? Up to 40m.
