Bumpy Ash

Flindersia schottiana

This is a large evergreen tree of sub-tropical or dry rainforests or riverside scrubs from the mid-north coast of New South Wales to Cape York. It is distinguished by a grey-barked trunk with numerous large bumps or burls.

The crown is dense and rounded, the leaves are large, up to 50cm long, with 7 to 10 oval leaflets, dark green above and grey-white beneath. Sprays of small white flowers appear at branch ends in early summer, giving rise to characteristic star-shaped woody fruits on ripening. The wood was valued for cabinet-making and indoor fittings.

How high can I grow? Up to 50m.
